Staphylococcal superantigen-specific IgE antibodies and its correlation with asthma severity
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Elevated IgE antibodies to Staphylococcal toxins (superantigens) are related to asthma severity in a few studies. We have investigated this hypothesis in an adult asthmatic population from the Clinical Immunology outpatient service of an University Hospital. Our objectives were: to detect the presence and the degree of IgEmediated sensitization to staphylococcal toxins in vitro in asthma patients; to correlate the presence and concentration of specific IgE against staphylococcal toxins with asthma severity; and to assess whether elevated levels of serum IgE specific for staphylococcal toxins may have predictive value for asthma severity.

Staphylococcal superantigen-specific IgE antibodies: degree of sensitization and association with severity of asthma
Objective: To determine the presence of staphylococcal superantigen-specific IgE antibodies and degree of IgE-mediated sensitization, as well as whether or not those are associated with the severity of asthma in adult patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving outpatients with asthma under treatment at a tertiary care university hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazi...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of Serum Specific IgE to Superantigens in Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis Patients
Staphylococcus aureus is the most common bacterium present in upper respiratory tract, and the toxins it produced are involved in allergic inflammation pathogenesis. In this study, we investigated the clinical significance of IgE in association with staphylococcal superantigens in allergic asthma with rhinitis (BAwAR) and allergic rhinitis alone (AR). We recruited 100 patients with BAwAR (group...
متن کاملSerum levels of IL-17A increase in Asthma but not in accordance with Serum level of IgE and Asthma Severity
Background and Aims: Recent evidence suggests that T helper (Th) 17 cells are involved in the emergence of asthma. Th17 cells have a key role in inducing inflammation in asthmatic airways thus Interleukin (IL)-17A, the main cytokine of Th17, contributes to airways inflammation. Materials and Methods: We evaluated the level of IL-17A and total immunoglobulin E (IgE) in sera of 100 asthmatic p...
متن کاملMucosal tissue polyclonal IgE is functional in response to allergen and SEB.
BACKGROUND Staphylococcus aureus may modify airway disease by inducing local formation of polyclonal IgE antibodies (abs), the role of which is unknown. METHODS Nasal mucosal tissue and serum was obtained from 12 allergic rhinitis (AR) and 14 nasal polyp (NP) subjects. Skin prick tests were performed, and total and specific IgE abs to inhalant allergens and enterotoxin B were determined in se...
متن کاملCorrelation between serum immunoglobulin levels and bronchial asthma
Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, are glycoprotein molecules produced by plasma cells (white blood cells). They act as a critical part of the immune response by specifically recognizing and binding to particular antigens. A hypersensitivity reaction initiated by immunologic mechanisms, mediated by IgE antibodies occurs in allergic asthma. The aim is to estimate and compare serum IgE le...
